Recently divorced and looking for a clean break, Evan Halden leaves Connecticut for coastal North Carolina and buys forty-two acres on Kellum Loop, a rural road outside Jacksonville. He wants distance—from his old life, from neighbors, from the expectations that come with being known. But privacy is harder to own than land.
As Evan builds a house and begins a relationship with Caroline Morton, a local woman carrying history of her own, his younger brother Ryan becomes entangled with a stranger online. What begins as a private exchange turns into something more deliberate: surveillance, encrypted messages, and pressure aimed at people who do not yet realize they are connected.
The deeper Evan settles into Kellum Loop, the more the boundaries between property, loyalty, and threat begin to disappear. Old local relationships complicate new ones. Digital intrusion reaches into the physical world. And as Evan prepares to gather friends and family on the land he thought would give him control, isolation becomes the thing that leaves them exposed.

Max Terzo writes thrillers about the tension between law, justice, and personal responsibility. His fiction is rooted in coastal North Carolina and the modern South, where questions of privacy, loyalty, land, and belonging rarely have simple answers.
His debut novel, Kellum Loop, follows an outsider who leaves behind the life he knows for something less certain, discovering that the most difficult paths can lead to growth—or somewhere much darker.
Terzo moved to North Carolina from Connecticut more than twenty years ago, looking to trade long New England winters for a different pace of life. What began as a change of scenery became a lasting connection to the region and to the people, places, and local customs that often find their way into his fiction. He lives in coastal North Carolina with his family.
